Where
can I get help setting up the Zezame system?
If you need assistance with the setup of your Zezame system, please contact Technical
support.
What
do I do if I have a technical question about the Zezame system?
If you cannot find your answer here in the technical faq, then
please contact us. One of our technical
gurus will get right on it.
Do
I need to enable Java, Javascript, or cookies for the Zezame
system to work with my browser?
You need to have Javascript and cookies enabled to be able to use the Zezame
system. The system checks that these are enabled before you are allowed to
log in. Java is not used in the Zezame environment. Neither do we use any other
type of plug-in, including ActiveX or .Net components.
What
browser do I need to use the Zezame system?
Please check the system
requirements in the products overview section
for information on browsers compatible with the Zezame system.
What
are the technical requirements for the server running the Zezame
software?
Please
check the system requirements in the products
overview section for information on server requirements for
the Zezame system.
Why
is my browser not currently supported by the Zezame system?
There are a number of reasons why we do not currently support all browsers.
The Zezame page annotation functions use cutting edge DHTML and Javascript
which have not been implemented on all browsers, even browsers which have the
same name. For example, we will be able to support Internet Explorer 5.0
for Windows but not Internet Explorer 5.2 for Macintosh, because the Macintosh
browser implementation does not contain the DHTML and JavaScript functionality
that are required for Zezame to work on this platform. Other browsers have
equivalent functionallity (i.e. Netscape and Mozilla) but implemented in a
very different way. Please check the system
requirements section in the Products overview for more information on the support
of different browsers and operating systems in future releases of the Zezame
system.
Where
does the Zezame system store the files that have been annotated?
The notes are stored in the Zezame database while the
actual web pages are stored in the cache folder on the server where
you installed the database.
Will
there be a Zezame server on Linux?
Yes, a version of the Zezame server on Linux is planned for a future release
of the Zezame system.
Is
the Zezame server like a proxy server?
The Zezame server is somewhat like a proxy server, because
it acts as an intermediary between your browser and remote web
sites as you browse. On the other hand, you do not have to specially
configure your browser to use the Zezame server like you would
have to do to use a proxy server.
Do
the annotations interfere with the layout of the page?
No, the annotations exist in a layer on top of the page, with
a link that locates them based on the content of the page. They
do not affect the way the page is displayed in the browser. If
you do find HTML pages which look different in Zezame than outside
of Zezame please pass on the sample to our technical
support so
we can improve the Zezame parser.
Is
the "Open Zezame" bookmark a security risk?
The "Open Zezame" bookmark uses Javascript to open the current
page in the Zezame system. This Javascript only tells the Zezame
server what page you are
viewing at the time. It does not have the potential to damage your browser
or operating system.
How
big will the Zezame cache get as I use the product?
The size of the Zezame cache is affected by a number of factors. Factors that
would increase the size of the cache would be more people using the system,
more pages being accessed, larger pages being accessed, and more pages being
annotated or kept. Increasing the frequency of cache sweeps to get rid of unneeded
pages will help reduce the size of the Zezame server.
How
can I control the size of the Zezame cache?
In the Zezame system settings, you can control the document lifetime within
the cache and the interval between cache sweeps. Adjusting these settings will
help the system clean unneeded pages out of the cache. Deleting projects which
are no longer needed will of course also affect the size of the Zezame cache.
Which
database is Zezame running on?
Zezame currently runs on the Microsoft SQL Server, version 7.0 and Microsoft
SQL Server 2000.
What
other databases are you planning to offer support for?
In the future, the Zezame system will support a built-in database, for easy
installation, and Oracle databases for high end requirements.
Are
the web pages in the cache secure?
The
web pages stored in the cache can only be viewed by people who
have Zezame accounts on your server and who are part of your project.
Are
the passwords for my account encrypted on the server?
Yes the passwords are encrypted using the MD5 algorithm when they are stored
in in the Zezame database.
Can
the traffic between my browser and the Zezame server be encrypted?
Yes it can be, but you have to run an SSL enabled
web server the traffic between your Zezame server and your browser
will not be
encrypted. Zezame does support SSL if you need to have a secure connection
to your system.
Can
someone access my notes directly from the database on
the server?
If someone has access rights to the database on the server,
they can look through the database and see all notes, however, this
is not trivial and if you are worried about this then you probably
have bigger problems anyway. ;)
I
get an error when trying to capture a frame set page. The error
says I am using an IE 5.0 web browser but I am on a IE 5.5 or
IE 6.0 browser.
Zezame 2.0 has this bug and it has been fixed with Zezame
2.0.1 which is available to download from
ISSEL our master distributor. Read more about it in the Zezame
2.0.1 release notes which can be downloaded as a PDF file.
